Play – a coping tool for stress

The look and feel of stress…

  • Can you spot it?

  • If so, how?

  • What do you do when it shows up?

  • How do you cope?

  • How to you take care of yourself?

Yes, here I am again with these questions.

I’ve been working with some motivated, talented, and bold clients, lately, and they have all mentioned how stress creeps up on them before they even recognize they have been thrown to the stress wolves.

The top stressors that seem to be showing up right now:

  • Being overtaxed mentally

  • Working too much and not being able to decompress at the end of the work day

  • Back-to-school this and that

  • Still working on that bikini body

  • The fast movement of 2012

Before I even tackle the limiting beliefs and mental gunk that is fueling these thoughts, I ask my clients to play some stress-busting hopscotch.

What, play? Yes!

I provide an actual hopscotch template and I ask my clients to use it, everyday, for five days.

Download your copy here.

Then, after five days, they should create their own stress-busting hopscotch. We meet after the 10 days to discuss what:

  • Helped them recognize stress before they were swooped up into a stressful vortex

  • Made  them laugh from their gut

  • Had them shaking their heads at their reaction as they caved in to stress

  • Got them strange looks (usually if they are at the office)

  • Increased their smile

  • Shifted their mental state of being

We will all experience stress and that is normal.

How we react to stress and what we do to take care of ourselves become the key factor into appropriately coping.

If you find yourself in a stressful situation, try out the stress-busting hopscotch and let me know what you learn and how you feel.
