Top "3" for the semester (& other big transitions)

It’s first day of school EVE for our family.

This has been a great summer of growth, social milestones, fun trips, and learning more about the life of a preteen in Silicon Valley.

Today we wrote out our “top threes” for the first semester.

Top priorities.
Top worries.
Top “just for fun” experiences and projects

I know there are so many memes out there about parents rejoicing that they will get a bit of freedom when their kids go back to school.

I feel that way for sure.

I’m excited to get back to my regular office hours.

But there are some things about back-to-school that are stressful, anxiety inducing, and increase the nervousness of our kids - and parents may often feel the same.

In creating our “top threes” lists, it helps us set the tone for how to approach the first day of school and gives us some guideposts for the first semester.

We even took it a bit further and created some visual supports - linked to the “top threes” - for our planners, the locker, and lunchtime love notes.

With all important transitions, attention should be paid to those whispers that make us feel unsure or scared.

Here’s to all us having great support and a soft place to land when we need it - during September.

What support structures do you have in place to help you navigate (big) transitions?

What are your back-to-school traditions and rituals?
