How do you feel about making space for other people’s schedules – having your time well used – and having your time wasted?
I get super cranky when people waste my time.
Many times, this wasting of time has nothing to actually do with you.
As I’ve mentioned when I talk about productivity profiles – there are a lot of “drifters” and “dreamers” out there.
They get excited about collaborations and meet ups – but they can’t seem to follow through.
They want to be included – but they can’t streamline their interests or priorities – so they over-commit and overbook.
So what can you do?
You need to focus on protecting your time and upholding your boundaries.
Here are 3 ways to get started with protecting your time:
Give people a response deadline for getting back you about meeting up, returning a call, or committing to a “let’s go and do…” outing.
Stick to one method of communication. People are often confused and disorganized if you mix-mash modes of communication.
Stop making plans with people who are flaky and indecisive. They are who they are – so no need to drive yourself crazy expecting a different outcome.
How do you protect your time?
How do you say NO to people and things that waste your time?
How do you call out the “time wasters” in your personal and professional life?
