When you’re checking on someone, what question do you ask?
The most common and most used question is “How are you?"
Most times, people truly do not know how to respond, especially when they are struggling and navigating challenges.
I typically ask friends, family members, and clients,
“How are you taking care of my [insert descriptive/relational word], today?"
This question is very specific, offers the recipient a moment to reflect, and is an invitation to ask for additional help or support.
This question is also good for face-to-face, ear-to-ear, and digital communication.
Who do you need to check on today?
Do you need to check in on yourself?
Try using this question.
“How are you taking care of my [insert descriptive/relational word], today?"
